After having realized that mounting a camera on my telescopes vas a bad idea, because of the narrow opening on my dome I had to come up with something new. so I decided to build a barn door tracker , this was first presented to me by my astronomy mentor who built one back in the sixties , having this in fresh memory I begun working on mine in this case I changed a lot of the components and made some modifications.
The first I did vas to cast a concrete pier to mount the tracker on , this vas made by ordinary concrete and a casting tube ( same sort that I use to make scopes with) when it had hardened I removed the tube by cutting it in half (a word of caution : don’t cut yourself doing it)
When this was done I mounted an old military sight tripod on top of it, no not the whole tripod just the upper part. This is cheap and readily availably.
I then painted it all black.
When the pier was ready I turned to the woodwork I used fibre board
Because it’s easy to work with and yields very good results it also takes the epoxy lamination well and this is very important because of the rainy, snowy and damp conditions where I live.
